Joint general secretary of district Jubo League Nahid Hasan Saddam has been arrested with sharp weapons in the murder case of Mahmudul Hasan Munna, who was killed during the July-August student-people uprising in Rangpur city.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Md. Majid Ali confirmed the matter to local reporters here on Tuesday afternoon.

He said that the joint forces arrested Nahid Hasan Saddam in a drive conducted in the station area of the city with the help of information technology today.

Arrested Saddam is the son of late Dhalu Mia of Alamnagar Babu Para in the station area of the city. He was also the former deputy publicity secretary of the district unit of banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Several country-made sharp weapons were recovered from his possession.

Police said Saddam attacked agitating students with country-made weapons on 4 August last year during the indomitable anti-discrimination student-people movement.

Munna was shot dead in front of the Raja Ram Mohan Club on that day.

At that time, Saddam publicly participated in the attack with a large sharp weapon. A picture of him holding a weapon at that time went viral on social media.

He has been in hiding since the fascist regime of autocrat leader Hasina was overthrown following a mass uprising of students-people on 5 August.

Munna's father Abdul Majid filed the murder case in this connection against 128 people, including former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his son, at the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Kotwali Cognizance Court on August 29 last year.

Former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, his younger brother Shamsuzzaman Ahmed Bhutto, and several leaders of banned Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League have already been arrested in this case.
