A woman and her daughter have been hacked to death in Bogura's Sadar Upazila following a reported family dispute.

The incident took place at the family's home in the upazila's Sabgram Madhyapara area in the early hours today (1 March), according to locals and police.

They said the daughter, Sokhina Begum, 35, was killed on the spot. Later, this morning, her mother Anwara Begum, 58, passed away while undergoing treatment at the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Their bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsies, said Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Moin Uddin.

According to the police and family members, Sokhina was married to Rubel Hossain from Bogura's Akashtara area about seven years ago. However, due to family disputes, they got divorced about a month ago, which led to resentment in Rubel's mind.

On Friday night, Rubel went to Sokhina's home which led to an argument. At one point, Rubel attacked Sokhina with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot. Anwara sustained critical injuries when she tried to intervene.

Hearing their screams for help, locals rushed to rescue them and took them to the hospital. The hospital authorities sent Sokhina's body to the morgue, while Anwara succumbed to her injuries at around 10:30am today.

Inspector Moin said they were yet to make any arrests over the murders, but efforts are ongoing to apprehend those involved.
