Sajek fire: Administration provides assistance to affected Tripura-Lusai families

The district administration has provided cash and relief assistance to 35 Tripura and Lusai families affected by the devastating fire at Sajek Valley, a popular tourist destination in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati.
District's Local Government Division Deputy Director Md Mobarak Hossain, also convener of the probe committee formed over the fire, distributed the relief items at the Shiv Temple premises in Sajek Valley among the affected families today (26 February).

The administration has given each family Tk7,500, 30kg of rice, dry foods, and blankets as relief assistance. The administration has also announced that the affected resort and cottage owners will be given Tk20,000 each.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and probe committee member secretary Shirin Akter said, "The affected families will be rehabilitated later. Those who have been impacted but initially left out will also receive assistance."
According to Rangamati district administration, on 24 February, 98 establishments (there were 95 counts earlier), including cottages, resorts, and local residences, were burnt to ashes in a devastating fire in Sajek Valley. Among them, 35 houses belong to the local Lusai and Tripura families.
Some of the nearly 200 residents of the Lusai and Tripura communities who lost their homes in the fire in the last two days have taken shelter in churches and temples, while others are still spending their nights under the open sky.
