Fire service has rescued a 12-year-old house maid who was found on the sunshade of a building in Elephant Road.

The incident occurred around 11:30am today (26 February). Someone from the building called the fire service who reached the spot around 11:50am and rescued her within 12:15pm, confirmed Fire Service and Civil Defense Media officer Talha Bin Zasim.

The girl was identified as Shahnaz, 12, daughter of Fakhruddin of Gouripur, Mymensingh. Fire service official Talha said Shahnaz was found on top of an outdoor unit of an air conditioner on the sunshade in Prince Tower situated in Elephant Road.

"The family who employed Shahnaz claimed she was not mentally stable," said Talha.

The house owner, Mahmud, told the media that they had been looking for the girl since morning and had watched CCTV footage, but still could not find her. Passersby and local residents saw the girl sitting on the sunshade of the 16th floor and informed them, and the fire service was informed.

Around 1pm, the police took the couple along with the child to the police station.

When asked about this, Mohsin Uddin, officer-in-charge of New Market Police Station, told TBS that the child has been sent to the hospital. After treatment, she will be handed over to her family.

"The girl's speech is a bit slurred, it seems that she may have mental problems. It does not seem that she was subjected to any torture," Said the OC.
