A court today  (24 February) placed former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam, NASSA Group chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder, and two others on different terms of remand in four separate cases filed with the different police stations in the capital.

The two other remanded accused are the former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the detective branch (DB) of police Shahen Shah and the general secretary of Dhaka's north city unit Jubo Mohila League Shamima Akter.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the orders, placing Atiqul on a four-day remand in the Sohagh Miah killing case filed with the Bhatara Police Station, Nazrul on a three-day remand in the Asif murder case filed with the city's Mirpur Police Station.

The court also placed former DB ADC Shahen Shah on a three-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim and Shamima on a two-day remand in a case lodged over an attempt to murder Dhaka University student Tahmid Mubin Ratul during the student-led July August mass uprising.

According to the case documents, Md Sohagh Miah, 16, was shot and killed in front of Forayeji Hospital in the 100 Feet area under Bhatara Police Station on July 19. The case was filed against 91 on August 20. Asif too got shot on July 19 in front of Rabbani Hotel in Mirpur. He succumbed to his injuries on the same night. The case was filed on November 1 against 22 people.
