'Achieved nothing in six months': BNP's Dudu questions rationale behind keeping interim govt in power

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today (23 February) criticised the interim government, saying it has achieved nothing in six months of power and questioned the rationale behind keeping the Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus-led government in office.

Speaking at a BNP rally in the field of Sadharan Pthaghar in Thakurgaon, Dudu also criticised the interim government for failing to curb inflation, reduce rice prices, create jobs, or improve law and order in six months, questioning its purpose.

Criticising the student coordinators, Dudu said, "You claim that only you have led mass uprisings, but that is not true. In 1990, we too led a mass movement. Even after being active in politics for so long, and despite being MPs and ministers, many of us still do not own luxury cars. But you, the student coordinators, who neither have jobs nor businesses, are managing to afford expensive cars and luxury flats in Rupayan Tower—where is this money coming from?"

Dudu also took a dig at CA Yunus, saying, "Dr Yunus has stated that students should have a party. This means you are siding with the students and are not neutral. You could even be engaging in dubious dealings in their name. BNP has yet to demand your resignation, but engaging in such actions is unbecoming of a Nobel Laureate. This will tarnish both your reputation and that of your government."

Pointing at Jamaat and other political parties, Dudu said, "Not just in Bangladesh, BNP enjoys immense popularity worldwide. Seeing that the BNP is set to return to power in the next election, our opponents cannot accept it. However, I assure you that BNP's doors remain open for all."
