Dybala double fires Roma into Europa League last 16

Paulo Dybala struck twice as Roma overcame Porto on 20 February to book their place in the Europa League last 16.

The Argentine forward turned the tie in Roma's favour after Samu Aghehowa had given Porto an early lead in Rome, following a 1-1 draw in Portugal.

Porto's hopes suffered a further blow when Stephen Eustaquio was sent off early in the second half, and Niccolo Pisilli added Roma's third to seal a 4-3 aggregate victory. A late own goal from Devyne Rensch confirmed the result.

"Having a champion like Dybala means a lot. He's extraordinary; he says very little, but he is a leader and always says the right things," Roma boss Claudio Ranieri told Sky Sport.

Roma will learn their next opponents when the last-16 draw takes place on Friday, with Athletic Bilbao or city rivals Lazio as possible opponents.

Four-time European champions Ajax narrowly progressed after a tense encounter against Union Saint-Gilloise. Holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, they found themselves in trouble after Kevin Mac Allister's header and a penalty converted by Promise David, following Davy Klaassen's early red card for deliberate handball.

Despite playing with ten men for 95 minutes, Ajax forced extra time, where Kenneth Taylor's penalty secured a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Jose Mourinho, aiming for another European trophy, saw his Fenerbahce side advance 5-2 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw at Anderlecht, a match disrupted by crowd trouble.

Real Sociedad crushed Midtjylland 7-3 over two legs, thrashing the Danish side 5-2 in San Sebastian. The Spanish club will face either Manchester United or Tottenham in the next round.

Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt produced a dramatic comeback to eliminate Twente 6-4 on aggregate. Trailing from the first leg, they forced extra time with two goals in second-half stoppage time, only for Twente to respond with a last-gasp equaliser.

Sondre Brunstad Fet's strike in the 111th minute restored Bodo/Glimt's lead before an own goal from Twente sealed their passage to the next round.

Ferencvaros, led by Robbie Keane, fell short against Viktoria Plzen, losing 3-0 on the night and 3-1 overall.

AZ Alkmaar advanced with a 6-3 aggregate win over Galatasaray despite surrendering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw in Turkey. Meanwhile, FCSB secured a 4-1 victory over PAOK, completing the job with a 2-0 win in Bucharest.

Conference League drama sees Betis, Copenhagen and Molde advance

Real Betis booked their place in the Conference League last 16 despite a 1-0 home defeat to Gent. Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque was sent off before Archie Brown's late winner for the Belgian side, but Betis held on for a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Copenhagen progressed after extra time, beating Heidenheim 3-1 in Germany to secure a 4-3 aggregate win.

Shamrock Rovers suffered penalty heartbreak, losing 5-4 in a shootout to Molde after a 1-1 aggregate scoreline. The Norwegians, trailing from the first leg, forced extra time with Magnus Wolff Eikrem's goal in Dublin.

Elsewhere, Panathinaikos edged out Vikingur Reykjavik with a last-gasp goal for a 3-2 aggregate win, while Pafos emerged victorious in an all-Cypriot clash against Omonia Nicosia.

Borac Banja Luka eliminated Olimpija Ljubljana with a narrow 1-0 victory after a goalless first leg, while Jagiellonia Bialystok and Celje also progressed to the next stage.
