A 44-year-old hawker, Md Moiz Uddin, was beaten to death during an altercation in Khilgaon last evening (16 February).

Khilgaon Police Station Inspector (investigation) Golam Mostafa said Moiz Uddin got into a dispute with locals Sujan and Monir in the Nandipara area.

"The disagreement escalated, and he was severely beaten. He was later taken to Mugda Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries," said the inspector.

Moiz Uddin's sister Nayantara filed a case over the incident.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Rezaul Karim of Khilgaon Police Station recovered the body from Mugda General Hospital's emergency department late last night. After completing legal procedures, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Morgue for an autopsy.

According to police, Moiz Uddin had visible injuries on his forehead, face, and throat.

The post-mortem report suggested beating injuries as the possible cause of death.

However, police said further investigation and the full autopsy report will confirm if other factors were involved.

Moiz Uddin's nephew Abdul Mannan said he was a sidewalk vendor selling clothes and was originally from Meghna Upazila in Cumilla.
