Gonotantrik Odhikar Committee condemns recent attacks, unrest and govt ‘inaction’
The committee demanded immediate government action regarding the book fair incidents
The Gonotantrik Odhikar Committee (Democratic Rights Committee), condemned the recent attacks, anarchy, and "government inaction" in addressing those.
At a meeting held at Dhaka University today (13 February), the civic platform expressed deep concern about the targeted attacks on publishers at the book fair, the apparent "police inaction", and "the government's failure" to control these groups.
They questioned how the current administration differs from Hasina's tenure if publisher monitoring continues.
The committee demanded immediate government action regarding these book fair incidents.
While congratulating the government on finally visiting the Aynaghar (secret detention centres) with some media and victims, the committee urged them to take a firm stance against those who destroyed evidence in the detention centres.
They further demanded the opening of all secret detention centres nationwide and the disbanding of the forces implicated in disappearances, particularly within the offices where these detention centres were located.
Committee members Professor Anu Muhammad, Dr Harun Or Rashid, Dr Mosahida Sultana, Dr Samina Lutfa, Dr Maha Mirza, Akram Khan, Dr Joydeep Bhattacharya, Seema Dutta, Fakhruddin Kabir Atiq, Anis Raihan, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, and Afzal Hossain, among others, attended the meeting
