Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Massranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla TV, were killed on the night of February 10, 2012, in a rented house in West Rajabazar of the capital.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Massranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla TV, were killed on the night of February 10, 2012, in a rented house in West Rajabazar of the capital.

The Interim government is committed to prioritising the swift and just resolution of the Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case, said Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Water Resources.

This case stands among the government's highest-priority legal proceedings, with law enforcement agencies actively working to submit the investigation report as soon as possible, she said while addressing the 'Sagar-Runi Human Rights Photo Award' exhibition at the Nalinikanta Bhattasali Auditorium of the National Museum on this evening (11 February), reads a press statement.

Emphasising the need for justice on the occasion, she remarked, "The perpetrators of this brutal murder must be brought to justice. There is no reason for the case to remain unresolved.

"While past complexities may have hindered progress, the government is no longer interfering in the investigation. Once the necessary evidence is gathered, the trial should proceed without delay."

Expressing concern over the prolonged delay in submitting the investigation report, she stated, "Repeated extensions have been sought in the past, yet no conclusive report has been submitted. This has raised serious doubts. The victims' families have endured years of agony. Justice must prevail—not only to provide them solace but also to prevent such heinous crimes in the future."

The exhibition was attended by Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi's only son, Mahir Sarwar Megh, along with their relatives, friends, and colleagues. Also present were human rights activists, journalists, photographers, and individuals from various professional backgrounds.

Prior to addressing the gathering, the Advisor visited the exhibition, reflecting on the lives and contributions of Sagar and Runi.
