DMP chief stresses moral education for children
The DMP chief called upon the parents to correct the small mistakes of their children, cautioning that otherwise they could make bigger mistakes
A sense of morality should be instilled in minds of younger students in classrooms and their homes alongside their routine school studies, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sajjat Ali said today (25 January).
"Parents and teachers should play a leading role in teaching them honesty, humility, just and respect for elders. There is no alternative to moral education to build the country," he said at an award distribution ceremony of Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College.

"We must also keep an eye on their buddies or whom they socialise with," he said.
Ali is the Board of Directors Chairman of the college, which also staged a cultural programme to mark the award distribution of the annual sports competition of the police-run institution.
He asked the college authorities to pay attention to the quality of education, which he said is reflected during their competitive enrolment tests in universities or higher educational institutions.
Ali noted only around 10 percent students qualify to be enrolled in public universities including Dhaka University though they secure high marks in class exams in schools and colleges.
"Our children, therefore, must be more focused on their studies but simultaneously their engagement in sports and cultural activities was also crucial for physical and mental excellence," he said.
The DMP chief said English as a language should get due importance alongside their mother tongue Bangla saying "English cannot be neglected as a foreign language in this era of globalisation".
The DMP commissioner prayed for forgiveness of the martyrs in the July-August Uprising and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
"If we want to realize the dreams of the martyrs, our students must focus on their studies. There is no alternative to building the country by studying and developing ourselves as good citizens," he said.
A one-minute of silence was observed in honour of the July-August uprising martyrs.
