BSF obstructing Bangladeshi farmers from cultivation, flag meeting held at Bhomra border

A battalion-level flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) was held at the Bhomra border in Satkhira this afternoon (12 January). 

The meeting addressed the BSF's obstruction of Bangladeshi farmers' land cultivation, involving two disputed plots. 

The meeting decided that the matter would be resolved after a joint survey by the two countries' survey departments on 15 January.

The BGB delegation was led by Lt Col Ashraful Haque, captain of the 33 BGB Battalion, while the BSF team was headed by 102 Battalion Commander Ramesh Kumar.

Nazmul Hossain, a resident of Lakshidari village, claimed that he had leased 10 decimals of land from the Water Development Board along the Kumrakhali Canal near Bhomra. 

On Saturday morning, he said BSF members prevented him from planting paddy, claiming the land belonged to India.

Another resident, Shaheen Gazi, stated that his father, Nazrul Gazi, had been farming one bigha of land near their home for over 50 years. 

"On Saturday afternoon, two labourers were stopped by BSF members from Ghojadanga while preparing the land for cultivation. The BSF claimed ownership of the plot," he said.

Later, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) called a flag meeting to address the matter.

Following the meeting, Subedar Afzal Hossain of Bhomra BGB confirmed that farming activities could continue in areas not under dispute.
