Two arrested for illegally selling wild birds in Dhaka's 300 feet road
The wildlife traders were arrested, and the team rescued the whistling ducks from their possession
Two illegal wildlife traders were caught red-handed while selling wild birds, specifically whistling ducks, in the 300 feet road and Bashundhara areas of Dhaka today (31 December).
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Forest Department, in collaboration with local volunteers and students, carried out the operation in the evening.
The wildlife traders were arrested, and the team rescued the whistling ducks from their possession.

Wildlife Inspector of WCCU, Ashim Mallik, confirmed the arrests and told The Business Standard: "For several days, reports had been circulating on social media about a group engaging in illegal wildlife trade in these areas. Concerned citizens alerted the WCCU, prompting our intelligence team to investigate. After extensive efforts, the team successfully detained the culprits and rescued ten whistling ducks from the illegal trade."
He added, "The rescued birds are to be released back into their natural habitat. Legal proceedings are underway against those involved in the buying and selling of these wild animals."
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating wildlife crime and have urged citizens to report such activities promptly.
