His first janaza was held at the Baitul Aman Mosque on Dhanmondi Road 7 after the Isha prayers last night. Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus attended it along with other members of the Advisory Council and other government officials.

The second janaza today was attended by Ariff's family members, the chief justice, justices of the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, and High Court, lawyers, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, and many more.

The third janaza was attended by family members, Ariff's colleagues, secretaries of different ministries and departments, and officials of the secretariat.

While some reports said decisions regarding his burial would be taken after the arrival of his daughter from abroad, others said Ariff would be buried at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard at Mirpur on Monday (23 December).

Ariff was appointed as an adviser to the interim government on August 8. The following day, he was entrusted with overseeing the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD).
