'We’ll perform well in Champions Trophy,' says Mahedi after player of the series honours

Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, who was named Player of the Series for his brilliant performance in Bangladesh's 3-0 whitewash of West Indies, is already setting his sights on the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Mahedi believes Bangladesh's recent form, particularly in T20Is, gives them every reason to be optimistic for the international tournament in February.

Mahedi was outstanding throughout the T20I series, claiming eight wickets across three matches and making significant contributions in the team's dominant victory.

Reflecting on the series, he expressed his confidence in Bangladesh's future, especially with the Champions Trophy on the horizon.

"Everyone has been performing well. We had a great T20I and Test series, although we couldn't play well in the ODIs. But the hunger to succeed was evident in the T20I series, as you could see in the body language of my teammates. I'm hopeful we'll perform well in the Champions Trophy," he said.

The off-spinner's success in the West Indies came off the back of valuable experience playing in the Global Super League T20, where he built up his confidence and sharpened his skills.

"Playing in the Global Super League just a few days ago was a great experience. I enjoy bowling on such pitches, and that experience really helped me here," Mahedi shared.

Particularly impressive was his ability to get the better of West Indies' star batter Nicholas Pooran, who struggled against Mahedi's off-spin.

The two have shared the field in several leagues, including the BPL, and Mahedi was confident in his strategy to dismiss the dangerous left-hander.

"I know Pooran because we've played together in the BPL and several other leagues. I'm aware that Pooran struggles a bit against right-arm off-spinners. That was the plan, and it worked perfectly," he explained.
