Workshop on mobile journalism held at CU

Chittagong University Content Creators Club organised a workshop titled 'Mobile Journalism' at the university's faculty of Social Sciences conference lounge today (4 December).

Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin, vice chancellor (administration), inaugurated the workshop, reads a press release.

Majumdar Babu, head of multimedia of The Business Standard, and Associate Professor of Communication and Journalism Department of Chittagong University Rajib Nandy were present as trainers.

Club President Md Masud presided over the workshop conducted by its executive members Sajeda Anjum and Muhammad Irfan. 

A total of 30 students from different departments of the university participated in the workshop. 

At the beginning of the program, a minute's silence was observed in memory of all those killed in the mass uprising.

In the opening speech, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin said, "Journalism has updated itself with time. Now is the time to master mobile phone skills. Those who cannot demonstrate competence here must leave."

Senior journalist Majumder Babu said, "Mobile and internet are very easily available. In this age of multimedia, mobile journalism is creating a good opportunity for career. Everyone should use mobile phones properly. 

"Currently there is no alternative to mobile journalism. If all students can use mobile phones to create video content, time can be utilised."

Associate Professor Rajib Nandy said the practice of journalism has changed over time. 

"Mobile journalism has broken the traditional way of presenting news. We will break the old model and do new things. However, this trend has some risks. If there is no media knowledge, using social media can also create confusion with multimedia," he added.

The second part of the workshop concluded with Mojo Report idea exchange, brainstorming session, question and answer session and awarding of certificates.
