The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has scrapped the Tk250 BMET emigration card (smart card) fee and Tk250 correction fee for outgoing migrant workers, aiming to reduce the financial burden on aspiring overseas employees.

The ministry issued a notice to the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET) on 25 November, instructing them to take necessary action regarding the fee.

"In order to reduce the cost of emigration for overseas employment, the collection of a Tk250 fee for the BMET emigration card and a Tk250 fee for correction, totalling Tk500, has been cancelled," reads the notice.

The issuance of the exit clearance with a QR code will continue without any fee, and the online confirmation of information will remain unchanged, it added.

The emigration card, commonly known as the BMET clearance card, is the final step for individuals seeking employment abroad. Thousands of outgoing workers obtain the card from BMET after applying through either an online or offline procedure.
