The Detective Branch (DB) of the Khulna Police have arrested two youths for attempting to take proxy tests in the police constable recruitment exam in Kushtia.

They were arrested at the Police Lines School and College exam centre yesterday (27 November), Kushtia Detective Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Muradul Islam told The Business Standard today (28 November).

"The detainees, identified as AHM Apu Hossain, 25 from Sherpur district, and Imran Hossain, 26 from Tangail district, were sent to jail today following a court appearance in connection with a case filed over the incident," the OC added.

According to the DB, a written test for recruitment to the position of Trainee Recruit Constable (TRC) was held at the Police Lines School and College from 10am to 11:30am yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, DB police learned that a group from various districts had arrived in Kushtia to facilitate proxy candidates for the exam.

"One of the suspects, AHM Apu Hossain, was strolling suspiciously in front of the exam centre's main gate during the test. Upon questioning, he revealed that another individual, Imran Hossain, had entered the exam hall to take the test on behalf of another candidate," said the OC.

After the exam concluded, DB police detained Imran Hossain, who admitted to taking the test for Badsha Islam from Kushtia's Daulatpur upazila.

Imran further disclosed that a deal of Tk70,000 had been struck between Badsha and one Abu Sayeed from Jamalpur district to arrange the proxy. The operation involved an organised group.

DB police also revealed that four individuals from Tangail travelled on Tuesday night for the proxy operation. Two got off in Kushtia while the remaining two went to Jashore, where they were also detained by DB police.

Sub-Inspector Alhaj Hossain of the district DB police filed a case against six individuals at Kushtia Model Police Station.

OC Muradul Islam said, "Two suspects have been sent to jail, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused."
