Gold price hits historic high in Bangladesh at Tk2 lakh per bhori
The revised prices will take effect from tomorrow
Gold prices in Bangladesh have crossed Tk2 lakh mark per bhori (11.664 grams) for the first time.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) announced a Tk3,150 increase per bhori for 22-carat gold tonight (6 October), setting the new rate at Tk2,00,726, the highest in the country's history.
The revised prices will take effect from tomorrow.
Under the latest pricing, 22-carat gold now costs Tk2,00,726 per bhori, 21-carat Tk1,91,605, 18-carat Tk1,64,229, and traditionally acquired gold Tk1,36,445 per bhori.
Earlier on 4 October, 22-carat gold price was increased by Tk2,192 to Tk1,97,576 per bhori. So far this year, the Bajus has revised gold prices 61 times, with 43 increases and 18 decreases.
According to Bajus, the hike reflects a rise in the value of pure gold in the local market. The new prices include a 5% VAT imposed by the government and a 6% minimum wage component set by the association.
However, actual retail prices may vary depending on jewellery design and craftsmanship.
