GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under a bilateral agreement. Currently, the organisation works in renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, good governance, and displacement.
GIZ Bangladesh is currently inviting applications for the position of:
Position: Urban and Regional Development Advisor
Number of positions: 01
Contract duration: One year (with possibility of extension)

A. Responsibilities
The position holder will be responsible for:
- Managing an area of responsibility aligned with programme objectives, team agreements and agreements with the superior.
- Assisting project initiatives to provide professional advisory services and cooperating with a broad range of target groups.
- Advising the supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.
- Supporting project planning, steering, and monitoring.
- Independently implementing goals and requirements set by the line manager.
- Making short-term decisions within a limited project area or unit.
- Identifying day-to-day problems and suggesting appropriate solutions.
B. Tasks
Core scope of tasks
- Coordinate the implementation of project activities in Rajshahi and Sirajganj, in close cooperation with contracted parties.
- Coordinate and communicate with project partners (e.g. City Corporation, Paurashava, community development committees, participants of urban living labs, citizens, and others).
- Support operational planning and contribute to continuous monitoring of project activities and results, in line with GIZ requirements.
- Provide feedback on practice-oriented approaches and management models from partner cities.
- Support development and dissemination of guidelines for urban environmental management.
- Participate in GIZ knowledge exchange activities on urban environmental management at country and regional levels.
- Assist in identifying implementation challenges and propose solutions in close cooperation with the supervisor.
- Support compliance with GIZ rules and regulations.
Other tasks
- Participate regularly in team meetings and share up-to-date implementation progress.
- Support monitoring and evaluation of contracts, including financial and factual aspects.
- Summarise and synthesise collected information for progress reports.
- Identify capacity development needs for implementing partners.
- Assist in organising and conducting trainings and workshops in Rajshahi and Sirajganj.
- Maintain communication and liaison with implementing partners, agencies, and community representatives.
- Organise exchange meetings between partners and conduct field visits to partner communities as required.
C. Required qualifications, competencies and experience
Academic qualifications

Master's degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Development Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, or another relevant subject.
Professional experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 2 years in urban environmental management and/or with local government institutions.
- Proven expertise in at least one of the following: sustainable urban development, environmental management, gender equality, capacity development, community mobilisation, and participatory planning.
Other knowledge and competences
- Strong coordination skills with multiple partner organisations, particularly in the public sector.
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and adjust work in line with strategies and workplans.
- Independent, motivated, and eager to learn and grow professionally.
- Dedication to promoting gender equality and youth involvement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
- Fluency in English and Bangla is essential.
