The Royal Danish Embassy is an ambitious and dynamic workplace with approximately 36 employees. It co-locates with the Norwegian and Swedish Embassies in an attractive modern working environment.
About the position
The position will provide political analysis and advice to the Embassy in support of a better understanding of the political dynamics in Bangladesh. Furthermore, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading and implementing the Embassy's communications strategy and improving the standards and effectiveness of the Embassy's external branding and outreach. The Political Adviser and Communications Lead will be part of a dynamic, fast-paced team responsible for public diplomacy, communication, policy and political analysis, maintaining media relations, and supporting the Embassy's external engagements.
This role will directly support the senior management, including the Ambassador and the Deputy Head of Mission, and offer cross-functional support to the Development and Economic Diplomacy teams. The Embassy seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and results-oriented professional, who is motivated and keen to work with the Embassy in various engagements.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
- Monitor and provide strategic input to the Embassy's analysis and reporting on political developments in areas of interest for Denmark such as democracy, human rights, foreign policy, and security.
- Develop and implement communication strategies that strengthen the Embassy's visibility and highlight Denmark's priorities abroad.
- Design, plan, and execute public diplomacy initiatives both online and offline in alignment with the Ministry's communications guidelines and the Embassy country strategy (e.g., cultural, academic, and business-related events) – including drafting possible funding applications to support such initiatives.
- Build and maintain a broad network with the media, CSOs, local influential actors, political actors, academicians, and subject matter experts.
- Represent Denmark in relevant working groups.
- Produce executive speeches, political reports, briefing notes, op-eds, and press releases.
- Carry out any other responsibility as required from time to time by the Embassy management.
Requirements
- University degree in Political Science, Law, Journalism, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in communications, policy analysis, international development, etc.
- Proven ability of analytical thinking (advantageous).
- Ability to build and maintain networks.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate.
- Flexibility and ability to work under time pressure.
- High proficiency in English and Bangla.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Canva, Meta Business, Hootsuite, etc.
Employment Conditions
- Full-time, open-ended employment offered, based on the Staff Rules of the Embassy.
- Subject to a 3-month initial probation period.
- Subject to successful security clearance.
- Working hours: 37 hours per week.
- Entitled to twenty (20) days of paid holiday per year.
- Salary will reflect qualifications, relevant experience, and proven work-related results.
- Covered by a workplace pension scheme as part of the salary.
- Dependant family members will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
