A decade of delivery, determination and digital transformation
Logistics remained fragmented, last-mile delivery was inconsistent, and trust gaps between merchants and customers were common.
When Paperfly began its journey in 2016, Bangladesh's e-commerce ecosystem was still finding its footing.
Logistics remained fragmented, last-mile delivery was inconsistent, and trust gaps between merchants and customers were common.
Over the past decade, Paperfly has grown into one of the country's recognised logistics-tech platforms, reaching customers across urban and remote districts alike.
As the company marks its 10-year milestone, Founder and Advisor Shahriar Hasan and Co-founder and CEO Md Razibul Islam reflect on the resilience, reinvention, and execution that shaped their journey.
From idea to institution
Question: What motivated you to launch Paperfly, and what problem were you determined to solve?
Shahriar Hasan: We saw a structural gap in the market. E-commerce businesses were emerging quickly, but logistics was not evolving at the same pace. Deliveries outside major cities were unreliable, return handling was chaotic, and merchants struggled with transparency. We believed that if we could build a technology-driven, nationwide delivery network, we could unlock the true potential of digital commerce. Paperfly was not just about moving parcels—it was about building trust in the system.
The early struggles
Question: What were the most pressing challenges during the formative years?
Md Razibul Islam: In the early days, every delivery felt like a test of credibility. Establishing operational processes, training field teams, ensuring accurate cash-on-delivery settlements, and introducing tracking systems required immense coordination. Infrastructure limitations in remote regions added further complexity. However, we focused on consistency over speed. Gradually, as merchants experienced dependable service, confidence grew and so did our footprint.
Scaling with technology
Question: How did innovation shape Paperfly's expansion strategy?
Shahriar Hasan: Logistics is increasingly a technology business. We invested early in building systems that improved visibility and efficiency, real-time tracking, structured return mechanisms, and data-driven performance monitoring. Innovation allowed us to scale without compromising quality. It also enabled us to serve entrepreneurs beyond metropolitan areas, ensuring that small businesses in district towns could compete nationally.
Resilience through uncertainty
Question:
The logistics sector has faced economic volatility and operational disruptions over the years. How did you navigate these periods?
Md Razibul Islam: Resilience is built through clarity of purpose. Market conditions fluctuate—fuel costs rise, consumer expectations shift, and competitive pressures intensify. During challenging times, we prioritized operational discipline and internal alignment. Transparent communication within the organization helped maintain morale. We treated every setback as a learning opportunity and focused on long-term sustainability rather than short-term reactions.
Impact beyond numbers
Question: Looking back, which milestone defines the past decade for you?
Md Razibul Islam: If I had to define one milestone, it would be building a national logistics network from the ground up. Over the past decade, we have bridged infrastructural and connectivity gaps across Bangladesh, linking cities, districts, and remote communities through a unified system. What makes this achievement meaningful is not just the scale, but the ecosystem we have built. Today, our integrated teams across operations, delivery, warehousing, and transport power a disciplined, tech-enabled logistics network driven by transparency and efficiency. Beyond business growth, we are proud of our role in empowering communities through employment and broader market access. From SME merchants to large corporates, we enable businesses of all sizes with integrated logistics support. By strengthening connectivity and infrastructure, we help entrepreneurs from remote regions reach national markets. For us, the defining milestone is not merely expansion; it is transforming fragmented logistics into an integrated, technology-driven ecosystem that advances inclusive economic progress.
The road ahead
Question: What is your vision for Paperfly over the next decade?
Shahriar Hasan: The future lies in integrated and intelligent logistics. Over the next decade, Paperfly aims to evolve into a complete 360-degree logistics solution provider where technology, infrastructure, and human capability operate seamlessly across online and offline channels. Beyond last-mile delivery, we are strengthening warehousing, fulfillment, bulk shipment, and Full Truckload capabilities to deliver end-to-end supply chain value.
At the core of this transformation is deep technology integration, including data-driven route optimization, stronger operational visibility, and enhanced customer experience, while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainable growth across Bangladesh.
In the coming phase, we are integrating advanced AI-driven capabilities such as dynamic route mapping, real-time analytics, intelligent demand forecasting, and automated exception management. We are also developing more dynamic and interactive dashboards for merchants, enabling real-time tracking, performance insights, and greater operational control. These initiatives will support faster deliveries, smarter decision making, and a more agile and transparent logistics ecosystem for the future of digital commerce.
Advice to the next generation
Question: What advice would you offer aspiring entrepreneurs?
Shahriar Hasan: Entrepreneurship demands patience and purpose. Building something meaningful requires endurance. Stay committed to solving real problems rather than chasing trends.
Md Razibul Islam: Execution builds credibility. Focus on delivering consistent value, nurturing your team, and remaining adaptable. Resilience is not optional, it is the foundation of long-term success.
