Veteran actor Soumitra Chaterjee's last rites to be performed at Kolkata's Keoratala crematorium in the evening.

The actor will be given the honourary gun salute at the crematorium, reports the Anandabazzar.

Soumitra Chaterjee's daughter Poulami Basu informed the media that the actor's body will be taken to their house at Kolkata's Golf Green area at 2pm. From there on the body will be taken to the technician studio.

His body will be taken to the city's Rabindro Sadan at around 3.30pm for the final respect and from there Soumitra's body will be taken to the Keoratala crematorium for his last rites.

The 85-year-old Dadasaheb Phalke awardee lost the prolonged battle with multiple ailments after being admitted in the hospital for 40 days.

He was admitted to the hospital on 6 October after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The veteran actor was shooting for a documentary titled "Abhijan" directed by actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay. He last attended shooting at the Bharatlaxmi Studio on 1 October.
