Actor Shamsunnahar Smrity, who is popularly known to her fans as Pori Moni, started to showcase her talent from an early age. In class 5, she got a scholarship for her intellectual brilliance.

The beautiful actress has been making news with her talent ever since she stepped into the Dhalywood industry.

The popular actress was born on 24 October 1992 and has nearly 10 million followers on Facebook. People want to know all about her and just love her posts. Although her films might not have reached the hit tagline, directors and producers are crazy to hire her for their movies.

Pori Moni was born in the small town of Narail in Satkhira district under Khulna division. Growing up, she had to face a series of tragedies. Her mother passed away when she was only two and a half years old, and her father died a little later.

She was solely raised by her grandparent Shamsul Haque Gazi in Pirojpur. She completed her SSC and HSC in the small town of Pirojpur. While studying BA (Hons) in the Bangla department at Satkhira Government College, she moved to Dhaka in 2011 to pursue her passion for dance at Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts.

She started her career with modelling and then tried her hands in Bangla drama in 2012. She proved her acting calibre with several Bangla dramas, such as Exclusive Extra Bachelor, Kotha Dilam, Tomar Jonno, Epar Opar, Nari and Nabanita, Mon Bhalo Nai, and 2nd Innings.

The talented actress got the opportunity to play the lead role in Jakaria Shokin's drama Nari and Nabanita where her co-actors included Amin Khan, Popy, and Ishana. In her first drama, she had the wonderful opportunity to work with veteran actors like Ilias Kanchan and Champa.

As luck would have it, she bid farewell to the small screen to enter the glitz and glamour of the silver screen.

She was flooded with work opportunities even before her first film hit the movie theatres. She had signed more than 30 films before the release of her debut movie.

Pori Moni finally entered the world of Dhallywood with her movie Rana Plaza, which was based on the garment factory Rana Plaza disaster in 2013. Unfortunately, the movie did not get the censor board's clearance due to sensitive national issues.

She finally got her big chance to showcase her acting prowess on the silver screen with her movie Bhalobasha Shimaheen, which was released on 13 February 2015.

Her other notable films released in 2015 are Amar Mon Jure Tui, Nagar Mastaan, and Mohua Shundori. In 2016, she starred in movies such as Mon Jaane Na Moner Thikana, Pure Jai Mon, Wazed Ali Sumon's action-packed Rokto, and Shafiq Hasan's Dhumketu.

Later, Koto Shopno Koto Asha, Apon Manush, Shona Bondhu, and Malek Afsari's Antar Jala were released in 2017. And in 2018, she starred in Shopnojaal. Among these movies, Shona Bondhu and Shopnojaal touched the hearts of her millions of admirers.

After becoming popular, she got the chance to act in several advertisements for popular brands like Lux, Sandalina, Walton, Pran Up, Pran Chutney, and so on.

She has starred with famous actors such as Shakib Khan, Zayed Khan, Anisur Rahman Milon, Mamunur Rashid, Symon Sadik, Bappy Chowdhury, Arefin Shuvo, Ziaul Roshan, Yash Rohan, Abul Hayat, and Probir Mitra during her glorious years in the Dhalywood industry.

The actress awaits the release of Adventure of Sundarban and biopic Pritilata. She also had the opportunity to work with directors such as Giasuddin Selim, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, and Masud Hasan Ujjal in films and advertisements.

She is currently single and even jokes that she is in a relationship with Rabindranath Tagore. There were rumours that she had married before entering the film industry. Social media was flooded with tonnes of images showing her supposed husband, but she denied that she had married.

But she was in a relationship with journalist Tamim Hossain. They got engaged on 14 February 2019 but unfortunately, their engagement was called off. On 9 March 2020, she married director Kamruzzaman Rony but the marriage also ended up in divorce this year.

Pori Moni has alleged that businessman Nasiruddin Mahmud has physically assaulted her and threatened to murder her at Uttara Boat Club. A case has been filed against Nasiruddin with Savar Police Station in connection with the attempt to rape and murder her. The perpetrator has been arrested as well. The case is now in progress.
