Tesla CEO Elon Musk is all set to host the popular TV show Saturday Night Live on 8 May.

This will mark a rare appearance of a business mogul in a popular live TV show which mainly features guests ranging from entertainment, politics, or sports arena.

Miley Cyrus, the pop singer and a frequent performer on the show, will be the musical guest that night, reports Variety.

Musk's appearance in the popular show builds upon his recent run of success. The CEO is basking on the success of his 'SpaceX" launching a mission to the International Space Station and his estimated fortune summing up to $177 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

The announcement came a few hours after the Crew Dragon Endeavour, a SpaceX craft, had successfully docked with the International Space Station on Saturday morning, following its launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Friday.

Musk, 49, has previously appeared on shows like "South Park," "The Simpsons" and "Rick and Morty" and in films like "Iron Man 2" and has gained an online following for initiatives like his recent announcement that Tesla would accept the digital currency Bitcoin for payments.

Earlier, New York mayors Ed Koch and Rudolph W Giuliani appeared as the host of Saturday Night Live. In 2015, it gave a platform to the then-presidential candidate Donald J Trump and the show's own cast members later said they had come to regret the decision.

Previous "Saturday Night Live" hosts this season have included the actors Daniel Kaluuya, Carey Mulligan and Regé-Jean Page, the musicians Adele and Nick Jonas and the comedian Bill Burr.
