Blake Shelton is facing backlash for debuting his song titled "Minimum Wage" amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The musician and coach on the singing competition TV show "The Voice" shared the music video for "Minimum Wage" during a virtual appearance on NBC's New Year's Eve special, reports Yahoo.

"Minimum Wage" is about Shelton's love for his fiancée, Gwen Stefani. The song contains a lyric in the chorus that upset many people.

"Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage."

Many people on Twitter called out the song as "tone deaf" given the current pandemic situation.

Does anyone else find Blake Shelton's "Minimum Wage" song to be incredibly tone deaf to our country's current state?

Is Blake Shelton singing about being on minimum wage? What is happening #NewYearsEve @nbc— chandler smith (@cyranodebuffalo) January 1, 2021

What!? @blakeshelton is #MinimumWage even for real? Yes of course @gwenstefani can make a dude on minimum wage feel rich cuz she's a millionaire. Are you working at the Home Depot now or something? Wanna pay my rent?

Many businesses were shut down and people were put out of work due to the pandemic situation.

One user on Twitter said, "A mega-millionaire romanticizing minimum wage is peak 2020."

Another user said they understood Shelton's sentiment with the lyrics of "Minimum Wage" but criticized its debut amid the coronavirus pandemic and its lasting effects on the American economy and unemployment.

I'm sure his intentions were good with that song 'minimum wage', but comparing love to monday and minimum wage is a bit tone def considering the state our country is in. Lost job and wages. Some people are living off of minimum wage. @blakeshelton #BlakeShelton #tonedef— Angela Gordon Holtz (@Angieholtz1972) January 2, 2021

The song has not yet been fully released and Shelton has yet to publicly comment on the backlash on social media.

Several fans of Shelton's new song spoke out on Twitter in his defense and urged the singer to release the song on streaming platforms and YouTube.
