A team of upcoming 'Bangabandhu' biopic has met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban following an invitation from her.

The filming of the biopic on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was previously postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, is set to begin from January 2021.

The Prime Minister has wished them good luck before the production of the movie.

A 20-member cast delegation met the Prime Minister from 3.30 pm to around 6 pm on Saturday.

The first cast team will arrive in Mumbai on 19 January while another team will arrive in February for the shooting of the movie.

Actor Arifin Shuvoo who will be essaying the role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman told the media that it felt more like an informal workshop rather than a meeting.

Arifin Shuvoo said, "I have met with the prime minister earlier but this session felt more special than the others as there was no political atmosphere whatsoever."

"Sheikh Rehana mam and the Prime Minister gave me information about various characters and details. I have researched extensively about Bangabandhu and his family through various resources but the words from the Prime Minister and Sheikh Rehana mam inspired me more than anything."

On meeting with the prime minister, actress Digha said, "It is my greatest achievement to meet the Prime Minister and hear her speak about the movie and give us information about Bangabandhu. This will surely help us with the film."

"Bangabandhu" is being co-produced by Bangladesh and India under the direction of renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Dighi will respectively portray the elder and younger versions of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's wife Fazilatunnesa Mujib (Renu), while Nusrat Faria will play the role of a younger version of Sheikh Hasina and Jannatul Sumaiya will portray the role of elder Sheikh Hasina.

Eminent actress Dilara Jaman will play the role of Bangbandhu's mother Sahera Khatun, actor Khairul Alam Sabuj will portray as Bangabandhu's father Sheikh Lutfor Rahman, Shahidul Alam Sachchu as Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, Ferdous Ahmed as Tajuddin Ahmed, Tauquir Ahmed as Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Tushar Khan as Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah, Fazlur Rahman Babu as Khandakar Moshtaq Ahmed and Misha Sawdagor as Aiyub Khan, among others.

The first slot of the movie will start in Mumbai on 25 January and will continue till 10 April. There will be a break before the second slot of the production. The rest of the shooting is slated to be shot in Bangladesh.
The movie was scheduled to be shot in Bangladesh but due to the surge in coronavirus cases it was halted. The inauguration of the movie was supposed to be held on 17 March last year in FDC but that was stopped due to the pandemic.

The producers hope to release the movie in 2021.
