Imran Haider has been named as the new Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh as the South Asian country has withdrawn its previous envoy Syed Maroof from Dhaka.
On the recommendation of the Pakistan foreign ministry, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has selected Imran Haider as the new High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
"The appointment of a new Pakistan high commissioner is under process," Shah Asif Rahman, spokesperson of Bangladesh's foreign ministry told TBS today (18 June).
Imran Haider is currently Pakistan's ambassador to Myanmar.
According to Pakistani media reports, Syed Maroof, the Pakistani High Commissioner to Bangladesh, has been recalled to Pakistan, effectively ending his diplomatic assignment in Bangladesh.
He is currently in Pakistan, according to sources.
Syed Ahmed Maroof was appointed as Pakistan's High Commissioner to Bangladesh in December 2023.
In May 2025, he suddenly left Dhaka on a two-week leave, which sparked various speculations at the time.
