Two TBS journalists receive Migration Media Award
The awards were presented today (18 December), marking International Migrants Day, at a ceremony held at a hotel in the capital. The chief guest, Michael Miller, ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh, handed over the awards.
Eighteen journalists, including two from The Business Standard, have received the Migration Media Award 2025 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to investigative journalism on migration issues.

To promote quality journalism on migration, BRAC introduced the Migration Media Award in Bangladesh in 2015. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the award.
Presenting the awards, EU Ambassador Michael Miller said journalists play a vital role in amplifying the voices of migrants.
He stressed the importance of ensuring safe migration and tackling irregular migration, adding that under the Europe Talent Partnership, Europe will legally recruit skilled and semi-skilled workers from Bangladesh, while reintegration of returnees must also be prioritised.
In the online category, TBS Senior Staff Correspondent Kamran Siddiqui, former TBS Special Correspondent Jasim Uddin, and TBS Senior Feature Writer Saleh Shafique jointly won first prize for their long-read story "How expats' money reshaping lives in villages."
In the national daily newspaper category, Rajib Ahmed of Daily Samakal won first place, Russell Ahmed of Kaler Kantho secured second place, while Kaniz Fatema, former TBS journalist, and Md Mohiuddin of Prothom Alo jointly won third place.
In the online category, Raihan Ahmed of JagoNews24 came second, and Md Abdullah of Banglavision finished third.
In the television news category, Samrat Hossain of Channel 24 won first prize, followed by Masuda Khatun of News 24 in second place and Sajid Arafat of Ekhon TV in third.
The investigative television programme category award went to Talash of Independent Television, accepted by Md Nazmul Sayed and Rakibul Hasan. In the radio category, Badsha Mia, Dhaka Bureau Chief of Radio Tehran, received the award.
In the regional newspaper category, Tarikul Islam Mohammad Hasan of Banglar Potrika won first place, Mohammad Sharif Iqbal of Daily Grameen Darpan came second, and Ayesha Siddika of Daily Subarnagram finished third.
Special guests at the event included Max Tunon, head of the International Labour Organization in Bangladesh, and Dr A T M Mahbub-ul Karim, joint secretary and project director of the RAISE Project under the Wage Earners' Welfare Board of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
The keynote paper was presented by Shahed Muhammad Ali, editor of Daily Samakal. The programme was chaired by Asif Saleh, executive director of BRAC, while the welcome address was delivered by Shariful Hasan, associate director (Migration and Youth Platform) of BRAC.
The awards are being presented under the Prottasha II Project, jointly funded by the European Union and BRAC.
