Russian embassy marks 80th Victory Day with reception in Dhaka
Senior Bangladeshi officials, diplomats, and business leaders attended the reception

The Embassy of Russia in Dhaka hosted a reception at the Le Meridien Dhaka hotel on 11 May to commemorate the country's Victory Day.
This year's celebration held special significance as it marked the 80th anniversary of the USSR's victory in the Great Patriotic War on 9 May 1945, reads a press release.

Alexander Mantytskiy, ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh, and Sattar Mia, head of the National Group and President of the Russian Friendship Society with Bangladesh, welcomed guests with opening remarks.
"This year, Russia together with its allies is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany," he said.

"The Nazis' attack on the Soviet Union was powerful and destructive. On 22 June 1941, our country faced the most combat-ready army in the world at that time, which employed the industrial military potential and economy of almost all of Europe," said the ambassador.
The ambassador emphasised the USSR's decisive role in defeating Nazi Germany and liberating Eastern and Central Europe. "The Great Patriotic War cost the Soviet Union 26.6 million human lives."
"Any attempts to distort historical truth, whitewash Nazi criminals and their collaborators, or diminish the Soviet people's role in achieving victory are blasphemous and must be stopped," he stated.
