China's SOHO Fashion opens office in Dhaka
SOHO’s entry is set to spur investment and Bangladesh-China collaboration in diversifying the textile base, says BGMEA

SOHO Fashion Group, a leading China-based global fashion company renowned for its innovative designs and high-quality apparel, has officially inaugurated its representative office in Bangladesh.
The office, located in Dhaka's Gulshan area, was launched today (16 September) in the presence of SOHO's Chairman Li Yanzhou, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan, and several leaders of the garment industry.

The opening marks a significant milestone in SOHO's global expansion strategy and underlines its commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh's apparel sector, one of the world's largest garment exporters.
"We are excited to expand our presence in Bangladesh, a vibrant and rapidly growing market," said Li Yanzhou.
"Through openness, collaboration, and innovation, SOHO Fashion Group aims to grow with global partners and build a brighter future together," he said.
SOHO has long been working as a key buyer for global retail fashion giants such as Zara and Calvin Klein, sourcing apparel from Bangladesh for decades. The company receives orders from international retailers and procures high-quality garments through local manufacturers.
At the inauguration, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan highlighted opportunities for Chinese investors in Bangladesh's apparel ecosystem.
While Bangladesh has developed strong expertise in traditional fabrics and garment stitching, he said that the country still lacks sufficient capabilities in man-made and technical fibres. He urged SOHO and other Chinese firms to invest in backward linkages to strengthen the industry's competitiveness.
Mahmud further pointed out that several compliant factories in Bangladesh have faced financial distress, with some already bankrupt.
"Foreign investors have opportunities to take over these factories, revive operations, and benefit from existing infrastructure," he said.
He also mentioned ongoing efforts to address tariff-related issues with the US, emphasising that trade negotiations aim to ease pressure and improve market access.
SOHO Fashion's entry is expected to not only bring in fresh investment but also foster collaboration between Bangladesh and China in diversifying the textile base. As global demand shifts toward sustainability and innovation, the partnership could play a crucial role in positioning Bangladesh as a stronger player in next-generation apparel manufacturing, said the BGMEA president.
Founded as a core enterprise of Jiangsu SOHO Holding Group, SOHO Fashion has grown into a global player in the textile and apparel industry.
With 11 subsidiaries, 2,000 employees, and international production bases, the company integrates research, design, manufacturing, and trade. It has earned recognition among China's National Top 100 Enterprises and continues to focus on green development, supply chain efficiency, and international market expansion across Europe, the US, and the Belt and Road regions.
