Deep depression over Bay, maritime ports asked to hoist cautionary signal 1

The Meteorological Department on Saturday asked Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra maritime ports to continue hoisting distant cautionary signal number one as the existing depression formed over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a deep depression.

Sheikh Harunur Rashid, weather forecast officer at Patenga Met Office, told The Business Standard that it would be known on May 20 where the depression would hit after intensifying further.

According to the Meteorological Department, the depression is now existing over the southeast Bay and adjoining Andaman sea area.

Earlier on Friday at 6pm, the depression was about 1,346 kilometres south-southwest of the Chattogram port, 1,270 kilometres south-southwest of the Cox's Bazar port, 1,325 kilometres south of the Mongla port and 1,285 kilometres south of the Payra port.
