Srijit wants to make a film on ‘Himu’

'I never decide a character on the casting. It's the other way round. I first establish the character, then it finds its own actor.'

Popular and acclaimed film maker Srijit Mukherji expressed his affection for the character of 'Himu', one of many immortal characters of the late Bangladeshi author Humayun Ahmed. The Indian director wants to make a film on the iconic character.
"I really am intrigued with the character. I would surely love to work on him. This is one of my favourite characters", said Srijit.

He is also eager to bring any one of Humayun Ahmed's work to the silver screen.

"I worked with Joya Ahsan. She is a producer now and recently produced 'Debi' from her banner. If she decides to make something on Himu, I hope she asks me. Or it may be a novel of Humayun Ahmed. I would want to work with that."

In an up close and personal interview with The Business Standard in Dhaka, the popular Indian film maker spoke in an uninhibited manner about his work, love life and his recent marriage to the Bangladeshi star Rafiath Rashid Mithila.

Srijit's latest film 'Dwitiyo Purush' (Second Man) got great reviews and fans are liking the film back in Kolkata. Srijit is glad that his work is getting appreciation.

"Dwitiyo Purush is doing a great business. Everyone is flocking to the theaters to see the film. This is an achievement as a director", added Srijit.

Srijit is busy working with Bangladeshi streaming site Bioscope. He is directing 'Feluda Ferot' for them. Indian actor Tota Roy Chowdhury is playing the fabled titular role.

"Tota is outstanding in the role. No one has seen a Feluda like him", commented an elated Srijit.

However, Srijit is not certain whether he would cast his wife, popular actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila, in his films. It all depends on the script and character, he said.

"I can't tell you right now. I never decide a character on the casting. It's the other way round. I first establish the character, then it finds its own actor. If I find a perfect character for her (Mithila), then may be, it is on the cards. But if I never get such a character, Mithila might never work in my films. I would even request my enemy to play a role, if he fits the character", said Srijit, who is often compared with the likes of Satyajit Ray and Christopher Nolan.

Mithila, an accomplished actress and singer in her own right, agrees with Srijit about acting in his films.

"I really do not have much to say regarding this. It's not like I cannot wait to work in his films. I hardly get enough time to act. At times, I cannot manage time, even if I want to act," added the popular actress.
