Workers of two factories in Chattogram on Monday staged demonstrations and blocked roads demanding that their wages and Eid bonus be paid.

The workers of Fashion Wear Garment Factory of Asia Group in Monsurabad area under the Double Mooring police station continued their agitation till 4pm. Later, the situation returned to normalcy after the factory authorities agreed to pay them half of their wages and full bonus before Eid following a meeting with police personnel, Sadip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring police station, told The Business Standard.

Meanwhile, daily wage workers at Saleh Steel Industry at the Rubi Gate area under Bayezid Bostami police station, blocked the Bayezid Bostami Road, demanding their due wages. Later, police convinced them to leave the road around 12 pm.

The protesting workers complained that they could not join their work in April as the factory was closed. The factory authorities did not tell them anything about their decision over not paying them because of the closure. Later, in mid-May, they were informed that they did not have jobs anymore.

Priton Sarker, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Bostami police station, said the workers gathered in front of Ruby Gate and blocked the road. Police advised them to go to the labour court over the matter.
