USTR delegation to visit Dhaka as Bangladesh, US seek deeper trade ties
Brendan Lynch, assistant USTR for South and Central Asia, will visit Bangladesh soon as part of efforts to strengthen ongoing trade dialogue.
A high-level delegation from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is set to visit Dhaka shortly as Bangladesh and the United States move to deepen bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The development was shared during a meeting today (21 April) between Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen at the Secretariat, reads a press release.
According to officials, the discussion focused on expanding trade, investment flows and strengthening broader economic cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Christensen said parliamentary proceedings in Bangladesh are being conducted in a smooth and effective manner under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, describing it as a positive example of democratic practice.
He added that expanding bilateral trade would be mutually beneficial for both countries.
He also informed that Brendan Lynch, assistant USTR for South and Central Asia, will visit Bangladesh soon as part of efforts to strengthen ongoing trade dialogue. During the visit, he is expected to seek updates on Bangladesh's new import policy order.
Commerce Minister Muktadir said work is underway involving the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant ministries to formulate the new import policy order.
He expressed hope that the draft of the Import Policy Order 2026 will soon be shared with the business community for feedback.
Both sides reiterated their interest in further expanding cooperation in trade, investment and policy engagement.
Commerce ministry Senior Secretary (Routine Charge) Md Abdur Rahim Khan and Political-Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka Eric Geelan were also present at the meeting.
