Italy praises Bepza’s contribution to Bangladesh’s development

Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Enrico Nunziata has praised the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) for its contribution to the industrial, economic as well as overall development of Bangladesh.

He also expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with the Bepza in future, which will encourage more Italian investors to invest in the EPZs.

He said this during his visit at Bepza Complex in Dhaka Wednesday.

Welcoming the ambassador at his office, Bepza Executive Chairman Major General SM Salahuddin Islam said the Bepza always provides its best services to investors to run their business smoothly.

The Bepza has taken different initiatives to combat the pandemic and tackle the adverse impact of Covid-19 on the business and industrial environment, he added.

Bepza Economic Zone, currently being developed at Mirsharai of Chattogram, is expected to be operational by this year, he mentioned, requesting Italian investors through the ambassador to come forward and explore the potentiality of investment in Mongla, Uttara and Ishwardi EPZ and Bepza Economic Zone.

The Bepza executive chairman and the ambassador discussed various operational and policy-related issues of Italian investment.

Mentionable, recently some problems have arisen in an Italian factory of EPZ regarding payment of workers' wages due to ongoing business slowdown and economic turmoil created for the pandemic. A fruitful discussion was held between Bepza and Italian Ambassador to solve the emerged problem of that factory.

Among others, Bepza member (investment promotion) Md Mahmudul Hossain Khan, general manager (public relations) Nazma Binte Alamgir, general manager (investment promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain, general manager (enterprise services) Md Khorshid Alam and general manager (Dhaka EPZ) Md Abdus Sobhan were present on the occasion.
