Hili land port opened for trade between Bangladesh and India on Monday after two and a half months.

The land port has come back to life as import-export activities resumed following all government health guidelines and directives.

Earlier, it was shut down to contain the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The resumption started at 11:30am on Monday when a good-carrying truck from India entered Bangladesh.

In the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh and Border Security Force members, the driver and helper had to wear masks, hand gloves, get their temperature tested, and pass through a sterilisation tunnel.

At this time the truck was also sprayed with disinfectant.

Earlier, a disinfectant tunnel had been set up at the Zero Point Gate to prevent infections.

After measuring the body temperature of truck drivers and helpers with hand-held thermal scanners, arrangements were made to disinfect all the good-carriers before they entered.

Hili land port management authority Panama Hili Port Link Ltd Public Relations Officer Sohrab Hossain said, "Trade between the two countries through the land port resumed early on Monday following a series of meetings and exchange of letters between Bangladeshi and Indian importers and exporters and while ensuring all health guidelines."

"On the first day, imported goods, including maize and onions, carrying trucks entered. Import-export activities in this port will be carried out through 40 trucks every day."
