CCCI requests shipping ministry to extend container store rent exemption
Importers are facing various problems amid the shutdown, which are delaying the delivery of containers

Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam has requested the shipping ministry to extend the exemption of container store rent until May 16, considering the situation of importers amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
Mahbubul Alam sent a letter in this regard to State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on May 4.
Thanking the government for exempting container store rent up to May 5, Mahbubul said the importers are facing various problems amid the shutdown, such as liquidity crisis in banks, lack of transportation and workers, etc., which are delaying the delivery of containers.
As a result of the exemption, the importers, who have original documents of shipment and bank guarantee, are receiving containers rapidly, thus lessening container congestion at the port.
