The textiles and jute ministry will honour seven organisations on the National Textiles Day to be observed on 4 December for their contribution to protecting the textile sector from the onslaught of the global coronavirus pandemic.

Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi made the announcement at a press conference at his ministry on Thursday, but he did not disclose the names of the organisations, reads a press release.

He said 4 December has been celebrated as the "National Textiles Day" since 2019. This year the theme will be "Globalisation of Textile Industry: Development of Bangladesh."

The minister further said that the textile sector has been able to keep the national export trend free from the grasp of the pandemic due to the stimulus declared by the prime minister.

Secretary to the Textiles and Jute Ministry Md Abdur Rouf, additional secretaries Md Abul Kalam and SM Selim Reza, Director General of the Department of Textiles Md Nuruzzaman, and other senior officials of the ministry were present at the press conference.
