Two DSE board seats fall vacant, polls scheduled for 15 Dec
The newly elected directors will formally join the board at the DSE’s annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for 18 December
With two director posts on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) board set to fall vacant next month upon expiry of their tenures, the bourse has scheduled elections for 15 December to fill the vacancies.
The outgoing directors are Md Shakil Rizvi, managing director of Shakil Rizvi Stock Limited, and Mohammad Shahjahan, managing director of Jahan Securities Limited, according to DSE sources. Both were elected by the exchange's primary shareholders – owners of brokerage houses.
The newly elected directors will formally join the board at the DSE's annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for 18 December, where the outgoing members will officially step down.
To oversee the polls, the DSE has formed a three-member election commission led by Justice Md Abdus Samad as chairman, with Mohammad Ibrahim and Dr Md Zahirul Islam serving as members from the shareholder representatives on the commission.
As per the election schedule, the voter list will be published on 12 November. Interested candidates may collect nomination papers from the DSE Tower between 13 and 19 November upon payment of Tk25.
Disputes or appeals regarding the voter list must be filed with the commission within the stipulated period. After examining the nomination papers, the commission will publish the final list of eligible candidates.
Rejected candidates will have two days to appeal to the commission, with the final list of contestants expected to be released on 3 December.
The election will then be held on 15 December from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
