Seven banks dropped from CSE50 benchmark index
The revised CSE50 index will take effect on 11 October 2026.
Seven listed banks have been excluded from the CSE50 benchmark index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) following its regular biannual review and rebalancing.
The changes will take effect on 11 October 2026, according to a press release issued by the port city bourse.
The CSE dropped Al-Arafah Islami Bank, IFIC Bank, Islami Bank, Mercantile Bank, ONE Bank, The Premier Bank and United Commercial Bank from the CSE50 index following a comprehensive review of the performance of listed companies.
To replace the outgoing entities, seven new companies across diverse sectors were inducted into the index. The newly included scrips are BSRM Steels, Berger Paints, Dhaka Bank, Fine Foods, Heidelberg Materials, Taufika Foods and Lovello, and The Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals.
Reviewed twice a year based on six-month performance data ending in June and December, the CSE50 index is designed to serve as an official benchmark for the country's capital market. It measures the performance of 50 leading and liquid stocks across various sectors, excluding corporate bonds, mutual funds, and 'Z' category companies.
Following the latest revision, the constituent companies of the CSE50 represent 76.40% of the total market capitalization and 72.57% of the free-float market capitalisation of all stocks listed on the Chittagong bourse as of 30 June 2026. Furthermore, these 50 scrips accounted for 53.72% of the average daily turnover recorded on the exchange over the six months ending 30 June 2026.
The remaining 50 companies comprising the revised index include heavyweights such as Square Pharmaceuticals, Grameenphone, British American Tobacco Bangladesh, Robi Axiata, Marico Bangladesh, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, BSRM Ltd, Olympic Industries, and Walton Hi-Tech Industries, alongside surviving banking institutions like BRAC Bank, City Bank, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Eastern Bank, Prime Bank, and Pubali Bank.
