Dhaka stock surges 15 points but turnover drops 12%

The benchmark index DSEX of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) surged 15 points yesterday, but the daily turnover dropped over 12% compared to the previous session.
On the day, DSEX rose 0.24% to reach 6,318 points. The daily turnover value was Tk674 crore, which was Tk764 crore a day ago.
At the end of yesterday's trading session, 101 scrips advanced, 68 declined and 169 remained unchanged.
The EBL Securities, in its daily market commentary, said the premier bourse of the country witnessed another upbeat session since buyers continued their dominance across the trading board as investors kept on chasing quick rallies on sector-specific scrips with quick gain potential.
The report said the market opened on a mixed note, while the indices remained flat till the mid-session as investors remained active on both sides of the trading fence.
However, buyers took control of the trading floor in the latter half of the session as optimistic investors opted to take positions in the lucrative issues, which they perceived as an opportunity to harness quick gains, it added.

Most of the sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which paper (1.4%), IT (0.8%), and miscellaneous (0.8%) exhibited the most positive returns on the DSE.
Non-bank financial institution Union Capital topped among the gaining stocks, followed by Sandhani Life Insurance and International Leasing.
Mutual funds dominated the loser table yesterday at the DSE.
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) all-share price index CASPI rose 39 points to reach at 18,699. But the turnover of the CSE dropped over 42% to Tk7.63 crore.
