BSEC engages local admin to expand investment literacy nationwide

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has taken a major step to expand investment literacy and public awareness about the capital market by engaging district and upazila administrations across the country.

For years, BSEC has run various programmes to educate investors and raise awareness about the capital market. As part of these ongoing efforts, the commission recently integrated links to its investment education website and YouTube channel into the National Information Portal, giving citizens easier access to financial literacy resources, according to a press release issued today (20 Ocotber).

To strengthen this initiative, the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance requested the Cabinet Division to involve local administrations in promoting investment awareness nationwide.

In response, on 8 October, the Cabinet Division's Field Administration Coordination Branch issued a directive asking all deputy commissioners (DCs) and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) to take necessary measures in this regard.

Copies of the directive were also sent to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for instructions to district information officers, while divisional commissioners were asked to ensure coordination and implementation at the regional level, the BSEC said.

Under the directive, local administrations have been instructed to include links to BSEC's Financial Literacy and Investment Awareness Programme (website: www.finlitbd.com and YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@financialliteracyprogramba61) on the district websites.

Local admin will assist BSEC in organising financial literacy seminars and workshops at district and upazila levels, raise the issue in monthly coordination meetings, and promote awareness campaigns through district information offices.

Under the directive, assistant commissioners (business, trade, and investment) will provide information and coordination support on capital market-related matters.

BSEC said it expects the active participation of local administrations to give new momentum to investment literacy and capital market awareness activities nationwide. 

The commission hopes that with government support and community involvement, citizens will become more financially educated—ultimately helping to build an informed investor base and foster sustainable growth in Bangladesh's capital market and economy.
