BD Lamps' losses narrow on higher revenue
In its disclosure to the stock exchange, the company said profit declined due to higher finance costs and a sharp increase in customs duties—from 10% to 28%—which contributed to the net loss.

Electric bulb producer Bangladesh Lamps Limited (BD Lamps) has reported a significant reduction in losses in the first quarter (Q1) of the current fiscal year, driven by higher revenue.
In the July-September quarter of FY25, the company reported a net loss of Tk1.25 crore, lower than Tk5.88 crore in the same period a year earlier. The improvement was primarily driven by a 15.7% increase in revenue.
According to its latest financials, BD Lamps' revenue increased to Tk48.79 crore, up from Tk42.17 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY2024. However, the cost of sales also rose to Tk37.32 crore from Tk33.97 crore a year ago, reducing the overall margin.

Finance costs rose to Tk3.84 crore in the first quarter from Tk3.40 crore in the same period of the previous year.
For the full fiscal year 2024–25, BD Lamps recommended a 10% cash dividend for its shareholders. In the previous year, the company paid 5% cash and 5% stock dividends.
Despite the dividend declaration, its share price fell 8.79% to Tk150.50 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday, leading the day's list of top losers.
The company's Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on 11 December 2025 to approve the financial statements, dividend, and other related matters. The record date for shareholders has been fixed on 3 November 2025.
By the end of FY25, BD Lamps reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk6.22, down from Tk12.76 in the previous fiscal year. Its Net Asset Value (NAV) per share stood at Tk39.93, down from Tk48.69 in FY24, while net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk13.86 negative against Tk18.87 negative a year earlier.
In September 2023, the company set up a new production line for manufacturing plastic parts of tube lights at its Narsingdi factory, at an estimated cost of Tk1.11 crore, financed through bank borrowings.
Listed on the stock exchanges in 1981, BD Lamps manufactures Philips lighting products under an exclusive licensing agreement with Philips Electronics NV Holland. It also produces bulbs, CFLs, tube lights, and other lighting items under its Transtec brand.
As of 30 September 2025, sponsors and directors jointly held 61.86% shares, institutions held 9.89%, foreign investors 0.03%, and general investors 28.22% of the company's shares.
