Workers gathered at the factory premises around 10 am at the Hamim Group's CCL garment factory located at Nishatnagar Mailgate as no notice extending the Eid holidays was issued by the factory, agitating workers said.

A clash between police and agitated workers started after police allegedly physically assaulted a garment worker at the entrance of the garment factory, workers alleged.

At one stage of the skirmish, police fired gunshots, tear gas and hurled rubber bullets to disperse the protesters as the demonstration created a long tailback on both sides on the Tongi highway.

The wounded workers were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Inspector Bachchu Mia, also In-Charge of the DMCH police out-post.
