BGMEA elections: Sammilita Parishad announces Chattogram region panel

The Sammilita Parishad has announced its panel for the Chattogram region ahead of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) biennial elections for the 2025–2027 term.
The announcement was made during a post-Eid reunion held at the Chittagong Club yesterday evening (20 April).
SM Abu Tayyab, managing director of Independent Apparels Limited, has been named the panel leader for the Chattogram region. Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, managing director of HKC Apparels Limited, has been selected as a key member of the team.
The panel also includes: Anjan Shekhar Das, managing director of RSB Industrial Limited; Mohammad Musa, managing director of Medina Fashions Limited; Nafid Nabi, managing director of BSA Group; Syed Mohammad Tanvir, managing director of Pacific Jeans Group; Mostafa Sarwar Riyad, managing director of RDM Apparels Limited; Md Afsar Hossain, managing director of Top Star Fashion Limited; andGazi Md Shahidullah, director of Sonnet Group.
In line with the panel's tradition, if elected, SM Abu Tayyab will assume the role of first vice president of BGMEA, while Rakibul Alam Chowdhury will serve as the vice president. The remaining members will be appointed as directors for the Chattogram region.
Following the announcement, speakers discussed the current state of the RMG sector in Chattogram, the challenges it faces, and strategies for sustainable growth. They highlighted the need for open dialogue among factory owners and collective efforts to navigate crises and drive the sector forward. The panel pledged to work with transparency, unity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
The event was attended by former BGMEA President Kazi Moniruzzaman and Faruk Hasan, chief coordinator of the BGMEA 2025–2027 election and also a former president of the association. Sammilita Parishad Panel Leader Md Abul Kalam also addressed the gathering.
Other notable attendees included former BGMEA first vice presidents Ershad Ullah and SM Nurul Haque, along with several distinguished business leaders. The programme was moderated by Syed Nazrul Islam, former BGMEA first vice president.
The BGMEA biennial election is scheduled for 31 May 2025.
