Professr Dr Syed Farhat Anwar has stepped down as chairman of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Election Board, just weeks before the election. 

He submitted the resignation letter on Wednesday, citing personal reasons.  

The development came at a time when all sides are taking preparations for the election slated for 4 April.

BGMEA President Dr Rabana Huq termed the resignation as embarrassing for the supreme body of apparel exporters.
