BBDN signs MoU with BGMEA, BKMEA to foster disability inclusion in RMG sector
The signing was announced at 'EmpowerAbility 2025' hosted by BRAC Bank today (11 November)
The Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN) has signed Memoranda of Understanding with the BGMEA and BKMEA to embed disability inclusion across the country's ready-made garment sector, with a focus on inclusive recruitment and industry-wide awareness.
The agreement signing was announced today at the 2nd "EmpowerAbility 2025: Powering Every Ability" conference, hosted by BRAC Bank under its flagship CSR initiative "Aporajeyo Ami".
Held at a city hotel, the event sought to accelerate Bangladesh's transition toward disability-inclusive growth by turning dialogue into actionable commitments, according to a press release.
Co-hosted by BBDN and supported by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the conference underscored the power of cross-sector collaboration in expanding equitable opportunities.
More than 50 organisations—including BRAC, Shin Shin Group, Team Group, ACI Logistics, Brand Forum, Bata, Sajida Foundation, Grameenphone, Akij Group, Mutual Trust Bank, Prime Bank, Eastern Bank, UNDP, and Save the Children—participated, representing a broad segment of Bangladesh's corporate and development ecosystem committed to inclusion.
Highlighting the significance of the new partnerships, BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said, "We must realise that inclusion is not charity; it is the foundation of a sustainable economy. Through Aporajeyo Ami, BRAC Bank is building bridges between business and social good, proving that empowering every ability empowers the nation itself."
The event was attended by Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain, adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, as chief guest; Md Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment; Ardashir Kabir, chairman of the BBDN Board of Trustees; Jürgen Menze of ILO's Global Business and Disability Network; Juergen Schilling, country director of GIZ; and Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, president of the Bangladesh Employers Federation, among others.
