Ashulia garment factory lays off 400 workers

The authorities of The Dress and the Ideas garment factory in Ashulia have laid off over 400 workers, citing "lack of work."
Factory director Lt Col Khaliq-ul-Hasan announced the owner's decision in a notice issued today (16 February).
Industrial Police-1 Superintendent Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the factory has 400 workers and stated the owner decided to close the Jamgora unit due to insufficient work.
Finishing section supervisor Md Jahangir Alam acknowledged reduced work but noted workers were still receiving regular wages.
"However, I heard that the owner has decided to lay off all officers, employees, and workers due to a lack of work," he said.
Bangladesh Garments Workers Unity Federation President Md Sarwar Hossain expressed concern over the increasing trend of factory closures and resulting worker unemployment, calling it a "bad sign."
