100 more RMG workers fall ill in Gazipur
According to doctors, the pattern of symptoms suggests a case of mass psychogenic illness

More than a hundred workers from International Classic Composite Limited (ICC International) in Gazipur's Basan Kodda area fell ill today (19 May), marking the third consecutive day of such incidents at the factory.
According to factory officials, the affected workers reported symptoms, including dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Some also experienced breathing difficulties.
Dr Sayem Kabir, registrar of the medicine department at City Medical College Hospital, stated that around 80 workers are currently receiving treatment.
He noted that while the exact cause remains undetermined, the pattern of symptoms suggests a case of mass psychogenic illness, also known as mass hysteria.
Shahin Khan, officer-in-charge of Basan Police Station, confirmed that the situation is now under control and that the affected workers are receiving appropriate medical care.
The factory had previously reported similar incidents on 17 May, when over 200 workers fell ill after consuming water supplied within the factory premises. Investigations into the cause of these illnesses are ongoing.
